Houston, we've made contact!
Stan turns four-weeks-old today. There have been major developments this week, as he was able to both obtain a drivers license and land a summer job all within a few days time. Ferris Bueller was right. Life does move pretty fast. Kidding, here’s where we’re really at: Stan is now able to lift his head up while on his belly, meaning we’ll soon be able to tote him around in the Bjorn baby carrier. He is also beginning to communicate with us through grunting, gurgling, cooing and other strange sounds. He even laughs and cracks a smile from time to time. “Houston, we’ve made contact!” And like a snowball rolling down a hill, Stan continues to grow larger everyday. He feels well over ten pounds now and is probably twenty-two inches in length. Soon he will tower over his mother.
So far, we’ve been very lucky with Stan, as his sleep and eating patterns are somewhat consistent. We still get thrown a curveball every now and then -- like when he abruptly wakes up only twenty to thirty minutes after a hearty feeding -- but for the most part we’re getting his rhythm down, we think. I hope that I didn’t just jinx us by saying that...
We watched a very informative video the other day titled “The Happiest Baby on the Block,” which teaches five essential baby calming techniques, also known as the five S’s: swaddling, sucking, shushing, swinging and side/stomach positioning. Sure, some of the info and techniques covered come natural; however, as new parents, overall we found this video to be quite helpful and reassuring. Thanks to everyone that recommended it, and special thanks to Auntie Chona, Uncle Daniel and Cooper Wingman for sending us a copy.
Stan’s Lola (Grandma Dancel) leaves for home tomorrow morning. We’re really sad to see her go, but family from the Jensen side will be arriving later that same afternoon.
And on that note, it’s time for me to sign off. Stan just fell asleep in his swing, which means we have t-minus one hour to get both ourselves and the house in order before he wakes up. Seriously, we’re lucky if we’re able to get our teeth brushed before noon most days, but it’s all worth it.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday weekend!
Travis
