The Stork has arrived: Stanley Stephen Jensen

Last week Thursday, June 4 at 6:45a.m., the stork delivered my son, Stanley Stephen Jensen, into the world.  Complete with a handful of mini stork bites on his delicate little body and face, Stan weighed in at a healthy 7lbs, 9oz and was 19in in length.  Despite the scare of almost having an emergency cesarean in the middle of the night, overall the delivery went quite smoothly – she pushed for about forty-five minutes, and I’m proud to say that I witnessed and participated in the entire process from start to finish.  My wife did an amazing job!  I’m so tremendously proud of her and have never felt closer to her.  The experience has bonded our relationship in a way that’s beyond measure.

Although Stan wasn’t due until June 16, our doctor says it’s good he arrived when he did, because otherwise he might have been too big for natural birth.  He already arrived with a full head of hair, long eyelashes and fingernails.  About the only thing he was missing was a five o’clock shadow, although he does have a little blonde peach fuzz on his chubby cheeks and chin, which he gets from his dad.

Interestingly, over the last couple of months, my wife has been saying that she thought Stan was going to be born on June 4 (6/4).  I don’t know if she somehow managed to psych herself into having him on that day or what, but it’s an amazing prediction.  The date is also a little ironic because our anniversary is reversed, April 6 (4/6).  All I know is that next time I go to Vegas -- which will be many, many moons away, I’ll be putting my chips on four and six.

The last week has been an amazing experience for both my wife and me.  We’re really enjoying getting to know the little guy.  The sleep deprivation, hysterical crying and changing diapers three times in ten minutes gets a little rough at times – he’s crying right now, in fact -- but just taking one look at his precious little face makes it all worth it.  We both find ourselves gazing at him for hours on end. Life truly has new meaning for me.  I have vowed to provide nothing short of the best for both he and my wife.

Today marks Stan’s one week birthday.  I calculated last night that I’ve already taken 300 photos with three different cameras during this time.  Below are a handful of favorites, ranging from two minutes old to yesterday morning.  Hope you enjoy them.

Thanks again to our wonderful family and friends for all the support over the last week.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

Welcome to the world, Stan! Tell mom and dad that we're looking forward to visiting when the dust settles. Make sure that you milk every drop out of your new baby charm and charge forth with the knowledge that your old man caused your Papa Steve a little grief back in the day.

Love,

Uncle Adam, Aunt Ariane, and Cousin Jake
