Brian Tucci Dot Com

My good friend Brian Tucci just launched his personal website, www.BrianTucci.com.  The site’s loaded with tons of skate photos, video clips and select press dating back to the mid-to-late 80s.  Check it out.  Brian asked me to write him a Bio for the site, which I’ve included below.  Read up on him, then give his new site a gander.   Tucci is a straight up legend in the skate game.

Brian Scott Tucci: “East Coast Ripper”

Professional skateboarder Brian Scott Tucci is revered an underground legend in the skateboarding world.  Hailing from Washington D.C., a.k.a. “Chocolate City,” Tucci’s skating was first featured in H-Street Skateboards legendary “Hokus Pokus” video, circa 1989, which is considered to be one of the most influential skateboarding videos of all-time.  Just as any skateboarder from that era will tell you, Tucci’s part was exceptionally progressive for the time and is still impressive even by today’s standards.

Tucci was also part of the original early-90s Freedom Plaza crew, a.k.a. “Pulaski Park,” which is credited for pushing street skating to new levels and helping put the East Coast on the map.

In addition to skateboarding, Tucci enjoys creating art of multiple mediums, including drawing, painting, writing and music.  Tucci’s writing was showcased in the “No Comply -- Skateboarding Speaks on Authority” book project (2006), which has sold several thousand copies to-date and was featured on the front page of the “San Francisco Chronicle,” amongst other reputable publications.  He was also a vocalist in 3 Levels of Genius, a D.C.-based hip-hop group which won the Washington D.C. Area Music Awards’ (WAMA) best rap act two years in a row.

Tucci has competed in professional contests and participated in demos all across the U.S.  Over the years, his skateboarding has been featured in a handful of mainstream and underground skateboarding films, including Trevor Prescott’s (RIP) “Seasons” series, Josh Stewart’s “Static” series, Chris Hall’s “True Mathmatics” (1996) and “Get Familiar” (2005), as well as in various issues of 411VM.  Tucci’s skating has also been showcased in numerous print and online publications, such as “Transworld Skateboarding,” “Thrasher Magazine,” “Slap Magazine,” “Focus” and 48blocks.com, among others.

Tucci currently lives and skates in Washington D.C. -- the same city where it all began.  His current sponsors include Circle-A Skateboards, Independent Trucks, Satori Wheels, Nike SB and Vu Skateshop in Baltimore, MD.

For more on Tucci, check out his recent “Back in the Day” spotlight in the April 2009 issue of “Transworld Skateboarding.”  Also, be on the lookout for an upcoming featured story on Tucci in the “Washington Post,” scheduled for release later this month.
