New Year, New Digs...
My living situation here in San Francisco over the last eleven-and-a-half years has been quite interesting to say the least. From stints in drug, cheap prostitute, disease and flea ridden residential hotels in the heart of the tenderloin to a floor space in a grimy Tendernob efficiency to a two nights stay on the benches at Union Square Park (before the remodel) to a coffin-size hallway space in a ramshackle Victorian located just down the hill from one of The City’s most notorious housing projects to a haunted house in the Outer Richmond District and on to another Richmond District flat located within stones throw of the old Anton LaVey house (founder of the Satanic Church and author of the Satanic Bible), the time to move has arrived yet again.
On January 15, my wife and I will be relocating to Miraloma Park, which sits on Mount Davidson, just west of Twin Peaks. It’s a very family-friendly neighborhood, definitely safe and quiet. And as you can see by the photos I’ve posted below, the neighborhood offers some, if not the best views in San Francisco.
Many folks I’ve talked to say they’ve never even heard of Miraloma Park and are often quick to assume that it isn’t even in The City. It’s funny, because a handful of said individuals rarely ever venture outside of their own neighborhood.
I shot the below photos at night with my old, outdated camera so they hardly do the place justice. I was also in somewhat of a hurry and didn’t have time to photograph the front of the house, backyard (which is huge), deck (you only see the views), guest bathroom or garage. I'll try and get some better pics once we move in. After the view, one of my favorite features in the house is the old George Jetson-looking stove and oven combo.
Here’s what writer Steve Rubenstein at the SF Chronicle had to say about Miraloma Park:
“Hard to believe, but true, that the best view in San Francisco is from the top of the kiddie slide at Miraloma Park […]”
“About the only thing that Miraloma Park is short on is crime […]”
“Miraloma Park rises above most of the rest of San Francisco and it is home to the aforementioned Mount Davidson which, at an elevation of 925 feet, is the highest point in San Francisco (a full 15- feet higher than nearby Twin Peaks, if you're keeping score […]”
“Mount Davidson is one of those quiet, unspoiled corners of San Francisco rarely visited by tourists, even though the view from the top is superior to the view from Twin Peaks […]”
Needless to say, my wife and I are very much looking forward to the move (minus the packing, of course). I have a feeling 2009 is going to be a banner year for both of us, a year filled with new discoveries and lots of positive and exciting changes. More on that though later. Hehe.
Wishing you all the best this New Year!
Travis
